Reunion Week Fun: Lake Shasta

We made a pact.  About a year or so ago.  It was fast approaching and we realized it would be here before we knew it.  Our ten year high school reunion.  The reality that ten years had passed started to sink in.  We had been friends for a decade.  Some would think that these friendships wouldn’t last.  Sure, we all went to the same school but most of us weren’t good friends until the very end.  Just a few short months before graduation.  But when you find friends as good as these guys, you hold onto those friendships.  You treasure them.

That pact?  To go to the reunion but only if we all went together.  We did just that but we also wanted to do something more. We decided on a few days of houseboating up at Lake Shasta to kick off reunion week.  We’ve never been but it was a blast.  It was later in the season but the weather was perfect and we avoided the crowds.  The lake was stunning, the company was great and the sunsets were gorgeous.

Day 1: We arrived at Lake Shasta.  We got in too late to set sail that night so we stayed in the Marina and checked out our digs for the next few days.

Day 2: We set sail!  We learned how to stake the boat, spent the afternoon swimming and exploring.  We even spotted a deer.

That night, the light was amazing.  Gotta love friends who are willing to model.  It was a great way to spend an hour and they were all naturals!

Lauren and Jen – you two are such beauties!  And, I might add, with quite perfect hair after a day of sun and swimming.

I make Matt pose for the camera way too much so he got a free pass on this one.  But not before a quick picture of us.

10 years of friendship.  Love!  (Wish you fellow Lancers – Jamie, Josh and Martin – could have come.  We missed you!)

We enjoyed most of this sunset swimming in the lake.  It was a moment I wanted to savor and remember.  Just before the colors started to fade, I quickly dried off and grabbed my camera.

Day 3: We headed out of the heat into the nice and cool Shasta Caverns.  The view from the top of the mountain was beautiful!

The caverns were quite amazing.  So much to see everywhere you looked.

These boys became pro’s at staking the boat to shore by the end of the trip.

And one last beautiful sunset!

Thanks friends for one fun reunion week!  Happy Thursday!

Marlene + Scott: Santa Clara Engagement

You never know when in life you are going to meet the one.  For Mar and Scott, it was in the first year of law school.  It may not have been love (or even like) at first sight but with a little time, that would change.  When they needed a partner for a class project, they decided to team up.  It’s always better to at least be with someone you know.  And little did they know that the partnership they created for that class would lead to finding the perfect partner to share the rest of life with.

A few weeks ago, we went to the place that started it all, Santa Clara University, for their engagement session.  It’s such a beautiful campus and we were blessed with a warm afternoon with pretty light.  Mar and Scott, thank you!  We had such fun with you two and thank you for being willing to do and try everything!  Looking forward to your big day next year!  xoxo

How cute are these two?  Full of smiles and laughter that radiated their love for each other.

Happy Tuesday!

I Left My Heart In Chicago

It was instant.  At first sight.  From the moment we arrived in Chicago, I knew it was love.  The city immediately took my heart and each day we spent there, I adored it even more.  I joked with Matt over dinner the first night that he may have to drag me to the airport on the last day of our trip.  And friends, that became a reality when it was time to leave.

Chicago was our belated anniversary trip.  We’d never been and wanted to go somewhere new for a few days.    It was a much welcome break and just what we needed.  We walked miles and miles around the city.  We ate too much delicious food.  We did a bit of shopping and explored endlessly.  It was perfection.  And no vacay would be complete without lots of pictures to remember it by.

We stayed in the Water Tower District and had this lovely view from our window.

The food in Chicago?  Spectacular.  One of our favorites was Frontera Grill.

The bean!

I could get used to sunsets like this!

Our favorite meal?  Brunch at the Publican.  A-maz-ing!

Matt has been a huge Bulls fan since I can remember so no trip to Chicago would be complete without a stop to United Center.

Skydeck Chicago.  Only 1353 feet in the air.

Last night drinks at the John Hancock building.

Happy weekend friends!

A Few Days in San Francisco: The P31 Retreat

Sometimes, I just stare at the screen.  With nothing but a blank page open.  Watching the cursor bar blink.  Blink.  Blink.  Wondering how I am going to put into words my thoughts and feelings for anyone to read.  Contemplating how I can sum up something in a way that everyone can understand.  Often, it is hard to try and find the right words to express how much an experience was appreciated, treasured and loved.  This blog is one such post.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of joining some amazing ladies for a photo retreat in San Francisco.  Having the opportunity to meet and spend a few days with women who inspire, motivate and encourage me was priceless.  Friendships were made, big goals were set and dreaming was encouraged.  I have been so blessed by these women and it is all thanks to Karen Stott.  Karen, thank you for being so open, for sharing your heart and for being such an inspiration.

Our time together was completed with a photo shoot.  We started the day at the beautiful Bently Reserve.  A big thanks to Ryan and Jennie for being such great models (and a super adorable couple too).

Happy Weekend!

Megan, Jenny & Kara: East Bay Portraits

I did my hair.  And makeup.  Oh yes, and a touch up or two.  Because this was no ordinary photoshoot.  I was still photographing but was also one of the models. And the stereotype that photographers are more comfortable behind the camera?  Totally true in my case.  I can rock out a cheesy smile but posing or working it for the camera is a whole other story.

A couple of weeks ago, a few friends (who also happen to be photographers) and I got together to shoot head shoots for each other.  The nerves quickly faded with these girls.  It was just fun.  Because when you are surrounded with women who are supportive, encouraging and kind, how can you not have a good time?  We took turns, learned from each other and laughed.  A lot.

A big thank you to Kara, Megan and Jenny!  You girls are amazing.  I’m thankful for each of you and for our growing friendships!  I ♥ you gals!  Here’s a few favorites that I took from the shoot.

// The lovely Jenny.  A total sweetheart.  She unfortunately had to leave early but not without a few shots of her beautiful smile.

// The adorable Kara.  Her laugh is contagious and girl, those eyes…fierce!  Thanks for organizing such a great day!

// The beautiful and adventurous Megan.  She was a total pro in front of the camera!  And she also has some seriously gorgeous hair.

Happy Tuesday!
