  • Why, hello you!

I’m Kim. I’m a wedding photographer based in Northern California. Take a peek around to learn a little bit more about me and what I love to do. The Importance of Kindness

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  Our opinions are one of the things that make each of us unique.  We each have different thoughts, styles, likes, dislikes and life experiences.  But why do some feel like their choices, thoughts and opinions are better than others?  Superior even? So much so that they feel justified to put others down.  Sometimes it seems we forget the lessons we were taught growing up.  Like the importance of being kind to each other.

We are called to love.  Accept one another.  Treat others as we would like to be treated.  As adults, we think people would have learned by now.  We don’t always have to agree or see eye to eye but we do need to treat each other with respect.

I remember growing up and constantly hearing the quote, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”  And you know what?  It’s wrong.  Sticks and stones can harm you but so can words.  Sometimes even deeper.  Think about it.  I bet each of you can instantly think of something someone said to you or about you that hurt your feelings.  Their negative words seem carved into your mind and still upset you.  Bruises and cuts heal themselves over time.  But harsh words?  They can stay with you forever.

We are doing the exact thing that we are trying to teach the youth of today is wrong.  Bullying.  Adults bullying their peers and co-workers by bashing each other on social media.  Some think it’s funny to laugh at someone else’s expense.  It may not affect us as much as children but we are teaching them that this is an acceptable way to behave and treat people.  When you try to break someone down, it does not build you up.  When you call someone else a name, it does not make you superior.  We should be better than this.  We need to be better than this.

Life would be quite different if we were to act out in kindness instead of anger.  Be a source of love instead of spewing hate.  Embrace positivity instead of focusing on negativity.  In the moments where you don’t agree with someone, do it respectfully.  And for those other times, when you don’t have anything nice to say, sometimes it’s best to not say anything at all.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Lehmann + Phi: Mills College Chapel and Lake Merritt Hotel Wedding In Oakland

From the first time I met Lehmann and Phi, I knew I liked them instantly.  Phi is a total gentleman with the ability to make anyone laugh. Lehmann is so sweet with a heart of gold.  And as a couple, they’re dynamic.  You can see it in the way they look at each other or the exchanged smiles that beam with love for one another.  I knew their wedding would be especially beautiful and it sure was.  From start to finish, I felt so lucky to be a part of their special day.

This past Saturday, surrounded by family and close friends, they exchanged I do’s and became husband and wife.  The ceremony was held at the stunning Mills Chapel in Oakland and the reception was at the Terrace Room at Lake Merritt Hotel.  It was the perfect wedding to start our 2012 season.

Lehmann and Phi, thank you both so much!  I truly loved being a part of your gorgeous wedding day and documenting the special love that you two share.  Wishing you both a lifetime of love and laughter.  Cheers!  xoxo.

Phi arrived and the morning started off with two tea ceremonies.  The first was for Lehmann’s side of the family.

After a few group shots, we headed over to tea ceremony number two with Phi’s family.

Mills Chapel is gorgeous!  It was the perfect backdrop for Lehmann and Phi’s ceremony.

The campus of Mills College had so many perfect areas for their portraits.

Even in the chilly evening, these two were awesome and we headed out for a few more portraits.  The reception got underway and they shared their special first dance.

I’ll end with this picture which pretty much sums up how much fun they are.  Happy Thursday!

Kristen + Peter: San Ramon Engagement

There’s dozens of things that can attract two people to each other.  Maybe it’s his laugh or the way her eyes sparkle.  Other times, the attraction goes beyond the physical and a deeper connection is made.  When Kristen met Peter, they bonded over life experiences and similar values.  It was finding a kindred spirit in another person and that initial bond translated into one beautiful relationship.  They are getting married later this year and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of their special day.

Last Sunday we headed to San Ramon for their engagement session.  The weather didn’t quite cooperate (brr, was it cold) but that didn’t seem to bother Kristen and Peter.  There is just an ease about them that made them so fun to photograph.  Thank you two so much for everything.  For being adventurous and willing to do anything.  You two are such a sweet and special couple and we can’t wait for your wedding.  xoxo.

A playground + these two = cuteness!

Happy Weekend!

A New Year, A New Look

This was months in the making.  Many late nights and loads of caffeine.  Highs and lows.  To-do lists that never seemed to end.  Moments of joy and frustrations.  And the feeling of having it finished?  A big sigh of relief and lots of happy smiles.

Today is the launch of my website and a revamp of this current blog.  The process started mid last year with a vision and an inspiration board that looked something like this.

I knew I wanted it to be my own instead of a template and somehow along the way, I decided that I would design it.  It was a decision I questioned every day of this process but I figured that no one knows me better than myself.  And now that it is done, the decision feels right and I am so proud of the outcome.

A big thanks to Matt who kept me sane throughout this process and who was my sounding board for most decisions.  And thank you all for your love and support.  It means so much to me.  xoxo.

For The Love of Travel: Hong Kong

There’s something about Hong Kong that has always felt a bit like home.  It’s a vastly different city on the other side of the world but there is a warm familiarity amidst the tall skyscrapers and crowded city streets.  I’ve only been once before this trip but with a wonderful bunch of extended family to always greet us, it makes the huge city feel cozy and inviting.  Since most of our time was spent in Thailand, we only had a few short days to explore and visit before heading home.  Our last trip a few years ago was spent doing the more touristy things Hong Kong has to offer so we opted to slow down and do a few new things.  Our first day there was spent visiting Cheung Chau, a small island off the coast from Hong Kong.  It was a short ferry ride away and I instantly loved this adorable town.

Bikes and walking are the main ways to get around.  There are no cars which made this place even more sweet.

I’m a sucker for an awesome skyline and Hong Kong has one of the best.

We were staying outside of town our last night and had a few hours to kill before our flight home.  Hong Kong Disneyland
was nice and close so we spent a few hours getting in some Disney fun.

Hong Kong is the only Disneyland with it’s own Toy Story land.  It was super cute and colorful.

Happy Monday!
